For the inaugural cooler review here at The FPS Review, we are bringing out the venerable Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO. This warhorse has been around since 2011 and is still one of the most popular air coolers on the planet due to its quiet performance, and impressively low cost. However, can it handle the heat from our highly overclocked Ryzen test platform?
System Setup
Today’s review takes place on our purpose built cooler testing system, featuring an AMD Ryzen 7 1700 overclocked to 3.9GHz, full introduction to myself, as well as our test setup and testing methodology can be found here.
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo Unboxing:
The packaging for the 212 Evo is very much one of the places you see the cost savings in place, however that does not mean it is bad, minimal would be an apt description. You get an adequate, albeit thin cardboard box with an image of the cooler printed on the front, along with text pointing out the 4 direct contact heatpipes and universal mounting system, our unit also has a sticker showing LGA 2011-V3 and 1151 socket support.
The back of the box features some marketing information in different languages, on the short sides of the box you will find the specifications on one and another image of the cooler on the opposite.
Upon opening the box the first thing you will see is the accessories box with the Cooler Master logo. Underneath you will see the cooler nestled into a thin molded plastic container with a spot for the backplate to snap into the rear.
While you can certainly see that the Hyper 212 Evos cost savings is in the packaging with the lack of custom cut foam or flashy box art, the packaging is adequate, and our unit arrived in perfect condition.
