Introduction

AMD is on a roll, there’s a lot of momentum behind the company, and we’ve seen the fruits of their labor with new hardware releases.  In 2019 there was the huge 7nm Zen 2 CPU product launch in July plus the new RDNA architecture Radeon RX 5000 series GPU launch.  Since then AMD has continued to launch its full lineup of Zen 2 Ryzen desktop and Threadripper CPUs.  AMD launched the Radeon RX 5700 XT, Radeon RX 5700 and Radeon RX 5500 XT.  AMD launched its yearly very large driver release with the new AMD Adrenalin 2020 Edition

The momentum continues for 2020.  At AMD’s keynote speech at CES 2020, it was stated that 2020 will be an even bigger year for AMD than 2019. Some new product announcements were made already to start off the new year.  There was the introduction of the new Ryzen 4000 mobile APU lineup based on Zen 2 cores.  Specific APUs like the Ryzen 7 4800H were announced, for high-performance laptops.  AMD also announced the Ryzen Threadripper 3990X, the first 64 core/128 thread CPU in a single package at 7nm for the desktop market with a great price.  AMD also announced another new video card in its new RDNA architecture Navi GPU lineup, the Radeon RX 5600 XT.

We have a full retail customized Add-in-Board manufacturer video card to review for you today based on the new Radeon RX 5600 XT GPU.  First, let’s talk about the Radeon RX 5600 XT, and then we will talk about our XFX Radeon RX 5600 XT THICC II Pro video card we will be reviewing.

AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT

The AMD Radeon RX 5600 XT is born out of the idea that gamers in the sweet spot of 1080p gaming need newer and better GPUs.  According to Steam survey, the top three graphics cards used are 3+ years old. These graphics cards provide subpar 1080p experiences for ultra-quality 1080p gaming in today’s games.  The Radeon RX 5600 XT is here to answer this need, and provide an upgrade path for people on AMD Ellesmere and Polaris GPUs based on the previous GCN architecture.  It is now time to upgrade to the new RDNA architecture and Navi GPUs.

First, the price, the official MSRP of the Radeon RX 5600 XT will be $279.99.  Manufacturer Add-in-Board partner video cards may cost more with robust cooling solutions and high factory overclocks. Let’s look at the specifications on the next page.
