Marvel’s decision to delay Black Widow from its original release date of May 1 to November 6, 2020 has set off some big changes for the rest of the Phase 4 slate, which includes the Doctor Strange sequel, Multiverse of Madness, and Thor: Love and Thunder. As Deadline reports:

Black Widow is taking over Eternals’ Nov. 6 slot, which is setting off an even Marvel pic chain reaction whereby Eternals moves to Feb. 12, 2021 (Shang-Chi’s old date); Shang-Chi moves to May 7, 2021 (Doctor Strange 2’s old date); Doctor Strange 2 moves to Nov. 5, 2021 (Thor: Love and Thunder’s old date), Thor: Love And Thunder moves to Feb. 18, 2022 which was a spot for an untitled Marvel pic. Black Panther 2 remains on May 6, 2022 and Captain Marvel 2 is now set for July 8, 2022, which Disney already RSVPed for an untitled live action pic. That release date change ease with the Marvel movies comes from Disney having control over key juggernaut dates on the calendar.

In summary:

  • The Eternals takes Shang-Chi’s February 12, 2021 release date
  • Shang-Chi takes Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’s May 7, 2021 date
  • Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness takes November 5, 2021 from Thor: Love and Thunder
  • Thor: Love and Thunder moves to February 18, 2022 in place of an untitled Marvel movie
  • Black Panther 2 keeps its original release date of May 8th, 2022
  • Captain Marvel 2 will be released on July 8th, 2022

Other Disney blockbusters that have received new release dates include the live-action adaptations of Mulan (July 24, 2021) and Jungle Cruise (July 30, 2021). Indiana Jones 5 has also been shifted from July 9 to July 29, 2022.
