Ex-airman Spends £30,000 to Create a Perfect Spitfire Replica for a Simulator in a Shed

An ex-airman, who also happens to be an engineer, spent two years creating a perfect Spitfire replica for a simulator in his shed. Mr. Mockford comes from a long line of Royal Air Force veterans, including his great-uncle, Frederick Stanley Mockford, who is credited as inventing the internationally recognized distress call "Mayday". This is only one of many projects Mr. Mockford has worked on with others including an F35, done by eye, and rewired front ends of a Lynx Helicopter and Boeing 737 to convert them into flight simulators. He has expanded these projects into a flight sim business where people can buy a one-hour flight for £60.

Epic Games Store Will Continue to Offer Free Games and Exclusives but Will Also Focus on Its Self-Published Titles

Earlier this week Tim Sweeney spoke with PC Gamer on a number of topics, including calling out Steam over its title publishing tools, but also touching upon free and exclusive titles. Epic Games Store general manager Steve Allison joined the call and expanded on these same topics. Epic Games Store will continue to offer free and exclusive titles but there will be changes moving forward and more free games are coming in 2023. Epic CEO Tim Sweeney said that it hasn't changed its strategy with Epic exclusives but Epic has learned what has worked well and what hasn't. It appears that Epic may be putting a greater focus on more popular titles for its exclusive deals moving forward.

Exoprimal Will Let Game Pass Subscribers Kill Dinosaurs on Day One

Survival horror fans continue to beg Capcom for a new Dino Crisis game, but while it's unclear whether that will ever happen, the next best thing may be just around the corner. Capcom has announced that Exoprimal, a new online team-based action game that tasks players with killing lots and lots of dinosaurs in Exosuits, is launching on July 14, 2023 for PS4, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and Windows PC—and not only that, it'll also be available to play on day one via Microsoft's game subscription service, Xbox Game Pass (consoles, Windows, and Cloud). According to a release date trailer that Capcom posted for Exoprimal, players can expect some pretty nice visuals in the game, coupled by exciting scenes that include dinosaurs raining from the sky. An open beta for Exoprimal will be available next week.

Tekken 8 Fans Aren’t Sure About Paul’s New “Karen” Haircut

Paul Phoenix will be back in Tekken 8, but he'll look a bit different than what fans might be accustomed to. As revealed in a new trailer that Bandai Namco posted today, the blue-eyed, blonde-haired, and short-tempered American is entering the latest competition with a surprising hairdo, one that appears to a far thing from the flattop hairstyle that he has rocked since the original Tekken game, which launched for arcades way back in 1994. Some fans have begun calling it a "Karen haircut," alluding to the popular meme, and while it's unclear whether that was what producer Katsuhiro Harada was going for, Bandai Namco will presumably offer plenty of paid DLC for Paul fans to revert him back to his usual style. A release date for Tekken 8 has yet to be announced.

Meta (Facebook) Is Developing a Twitter Rival

Mark Zuckerberg seems to think he can build a better version of Twitter. In a statement to Moneycontrol, a spokesperson with Meta, Facebook's parent company, revealed that it is currently developing a decentralized social network for sharing text updates, and while the blue bird headed by Elon Musk wasn't directly named, the project, codenamed P92, sounds an awful like Twitter, as pointed out by CNN, which received a separate but similar statement that offers insight as to why Meta is pursuing this. Adam Mosseri, who heads Instagram, is reportedly leading the project.

Fortnite Drops Official Support for Windows 7 and 8 Systems

Fortnite players who want the best experience will need to ensure that they're on newer versions of Windows going forward. Although not really a secret, with Epic having teased the change back in December, a new tweet from one of Fortnite's official accounts can confirm that the hugely popular battle royale game is now no longer officially supported on Windows 7 and Windows 8, arguably ancient operating systems that Microsoft ended mainstream support for some years ago. Complementing that change is today's launch of Fortnite Battle Royale Chapter 4 Season 2, a new season of the game that invites players to explore MEGA City on sports bikes and more.

HP Blocks Third-Party Ink with Printer Firmware Update

HP seems to be upset about people using its printers with cheaper, non-official ink. As highlighted by an enormous number of complaints on the "assholedesign" subreddit, HP has sent out a new firmware update that prevents third-party inks from being used with its printers, an indication that owners have little option but to use HP's own ink cartridges going forward. According to an HP support article, this is a security feature that was partially implemented to protect customers, although it seems to have done much more than that, having prompted outrage among what appear to be all users, some of whom insist that this isn't even legal.

Major Streets of Rage 4 Update Adds 300+ Improvements to Dotemu’s 2020 Beat ’em Up

Streets of Rage 4 may be a couple of years old now, but the developers at Dotemu clearly haven't forgotten about its award-winning revival of the iconic beat 'em up series, which Sega originally launched in the early '90s for its classic Genesis and Mega Drive consoles. Dotemu announced today that a new, free update for Streets of Rage 4 is now available for those who own the game on PC (Steam, GOG, Windows Store), PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox One, and it's a major one, introducing new features that include new co-op moves, a brand-new custom survival mode for the Mr. X Nightmare DLC, and, perhaps most excitingly, over 300+ in-game improvements. Featuring a cast of eight playable characters that include franchise staples Axel Stone and Blaze Fielding, Streets of Rage 4 is currently available on Steam at a 50% discount for $12.49.

NVIDIA Removes GeForce RTX 30 Series Founders Edition Graphics Cards from Online Store

Enthusiasts who were looking to score an Ampere GPU with reference cooler direct from NVIDIA may have missed their chance. As spotted by French outlet Cowcotland, NVIDIA has seemingly removed all GeForce RTX 30 Series Founders Edition listings from its US and French shops, including the GeForce RTX 3070, GeForce RTX 3080, and GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, a capper to the Ampere generation that NVIDIA launched in March 2022 for $1,999. That said, NVIDIA continues to link to a handful of custom GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards on its online shop, such as ZOTAC's own GeForce RTX 3090 Ti, which is listed for $1,079.99.

Micro Center Is Opening More Stores, Starting with Indianapolis

It doesn't appear as if Micro Center will be going the way of Fry's Electronics or Circuit City any time soon. According to a store update on the Micro Center site, Micro Center is planning to open a new retail location in Indianapolis this summer, allowing locals (or those desperate enough to take a road trip) to walk aisles upon aisles of the latest computer hardware. Visitors will also be able to sit down at the Knowledge Bar, where they can get comprehensive warranty and repair services, test associates' knowledge on tech, and more. Micro Center is reportedly planning to open two additional locations by 2025.

Sources: Jenna Ortega (Wednesday) to Star As Lydia’s Daughter in Beetlejuice 2

Beetlejuice 2 is finally happening, and it will feature an actress that Addams Family fans should be quite familiar with. According to sources with The Hollywood Reporter, Jenna Ortega, who plays Wednesday Addams in Netflix's eponymous series, is set to star in the long-anticipated sequel to the 1988 horror comedy that saw Michael Keaton hired to scare away a family as a green-haired bio-exorcist. Sources say that Ortega will play the daughter of Lydia Deetz, who was played by Winona Ryder in the original film and can be fondly remembered dancing to "Jump In The Line (Shake Senora)" during its conclusion.

Square Enix Calls Forspoken Sales “Lackluster”

Forspoken may be available at a substantial discount soon. In a new financial results presentation, Square Enix President Yosuke Matsuda (who's reportedly stepping down from the company in June) revealed that sales of the new fantasy RPG starring Ella Balinska have been disappointing, describing them as "lackluster" following "challenging" reviews. Matsuda suggested that the project hasn't been a total loss, however, having earned praise for some of its novel gameplay mechanics (e.g., magic-infused parkour), which the executive believes might strengthen its future games. Featuring a soundtrack by Bear McCreary (God of War) and Garry Schyman (BioShock), Forspoken is currently listed on Steam for $69.99.
