Conclusion

Today we have taken an in-depth look at the XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 319 RX 6700 XT BLACK video card.  The card with a long name, and also a long appearance.  But it does take the Radeon RX 6700 XT to its limits.

The XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 319 BLACK RX 6700 XT sits at the top of XFX’s product lineup for Radeon RX 6700 XT video cards.  It offers a very customized piece of hardware, from the PCB to the heatsink to the factory overclock.  XFX has thrown its latest Ghost Thermal heatsink and fan design on it and beefed it up with a Dual BIOS, great cooling, and greater power delivery.

Overclocking and Cooling

Let’s just jump right to the good stuff.  Overclocking and cooling are this video card’s strengths.  On the topic of cooling this video card is very robust.  Thanks to the design our GPU remained 8 degrees cooler than the reference card, but that alone wasn’t the best.  It was able to maintain that temperature improvement with a lower fan speed and lower fan rotation than the reference video card, making it very quiet while gaming.  It can do more, with less, and that is what it proved.  The cooling configuration isn’t just a bunch of buzz words, it actually makes a difference.

When it comes to overclocking this video card really shines.  We are able to push the Power Limit up to +15% which made a difference in our testing.  We were able to increase the GPU offset to almost the highest level.  In addition, memory was able to be maxed out at the AMD locked frequency.  While we did use a 100% fan speed and got an incredible 47c temperature, it wasn’t necessary.

The end result of overclocking is that the XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 319 RX 6700 XT BLACK achieved the highest overclock yet for us with a Radeon RX 6700 XT.  We were literally squeezing everything we could out of the Radeon RX 6700 XT GPU at its default Voltage.

Performance

In performance this overclock provide a 5-10% performance increase.  What it did was allow the video card to reach GeForce RTX 3070 FE performance levels.  However, it did take that overclock to get there.  Otherwise, the RTX 3070 FE was the faster video card in all situations, and also the more expensive one.

Compared to the GeForce RTX 3060 Ti FE though, the XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 319 RX 6700 XT BLACK came through. It did provide a better performance, especially when overclocked.  We actually found that we could make use of Ray Tracing at 1440p if graphics settings are tweaked down.  Otherwise, the 1440p gaming experience is very smooth without Ray Tracing on the XFX RX 6700 XT.  AMD is marketing the RX 6700 XT as a 1440p GPU, and we agree with that assessment.

The Final Points

The XFX SPEEDSTER MERC 319 BLACK RX 6700 XT video card is an enthusiast gamer video card.  It allows you to bring the Radeon RX 6700 XT to the brink of its potential and does so while keeping things cool and quiet.  You will need the space for it though, this is a big video card, in length, width, and height.  When and if prices settle, this will make an excellent video card for any gamer who wants a great 1440p gaming experience for a little less than a GeForce RTX 3070.

XFX deserves acknowledgment for the engineering put into this video card.  XFX has certainly shown improvement in its quality of design over the generations of its Ghost Thermal design.  This one screams top-notch quality and a solid build.
