SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE Review

Gameplay Performance

We are going to focus on the 4K gameplay performance with the SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card.  We will include DLSS and FSR performance on the same graph in the games that are supported.  We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs.  Ray Tracing performance will be shown on a separate page.  For video card comparisons we are using an AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT video card and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 Ti FE video card and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 FE video card.

F1 2022

F1 2022 was released on June 28th, 2022 on the PC and uses Codemasters Ego engine.  The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, AMD FidelityFX, and FSR.  We are going to run the game with the highest quality settings of “Ultra High” and TAA+FidelityFX.  We will enable DLSS and FSR as needed at the Quality setting for both.  We will utilize the built-in benchmark in the Imola track, in dry conditions with a far chasing cam.

In F1 2022 we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings, minus Ray Tracing, and we are using TAA+FidelityFX. This game is very playable at these settings on all the video cards shown here, at 4K. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 10% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 4% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE outperforms the RTX 3090 by 10%, but the RTX 3090 Ti outperforms the 6950 XT by 4%.

DLSS and FSR greatly improve performance on all video cards. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE gets a 40% performance boost enabling FSR. This is 18% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT’s FSR performance. Overclocked, we are nearing 200FPS in this game.

Dying Light 2

Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine.  The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR.  We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing.  We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute.  For our benchmark, we are using a custom manual run-through at the end of the game hopping between rooftops, as well as free-roaming on the ground city level, as well as a forested area, in the daylight.

In Dying Light 2 we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings, minus Ray Tracing. The Radeon RX 6900 XT and GeForce RTX 3090 struggle the most for performance, and the RX 6900 XT is not as playable, it’s noticeably slower, and it’s on the borderline of being playable. However, the new Radeon RX 6950 XT and RTX 3090 Ti are playable at 4K at these settings. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 9% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 10% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE outperforms the RTX 3090 by 5%, but the RTX 3090 Ti outperforms the 6950 XT by 6%.

DLSS and FSR greatly improve performance on all video cards. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE gets a 54% performance boost enabling FSR. This is 9% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT’s FSR performance.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Extraction was released on PC in January of 2022.  This game uses the Ubisoft Anvil gaming engine and supports DLSS and multiple TAA options as well as a high-definition Texture Pack.  We are running the game at the highest graphics settings, at a fixed 100% resolution.  We will test with TAA and DLSS where supported.  We are using the built-in benchmark.

In Rainbow Six Extraction we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings. This game is very playable at these settings on all the video cards shown here, at 4K. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 10% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 6% more performance. In this game, the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti have a performance advantage. When you take into account DLSS, that only increases in their favor.

Forza Horizon 5

Forza Horizon 5 was released on PC in November of 2021 and it uses the ForzaTech game engine. For our evaluation, we raise the in-game graphic settings beyond the “Extreme” preset to the maximum game settings. In addition to the “Extreme” preset, we raise SSAO Quality to Ultra, Reflection Quality to Extreme, SSR Quality to Ultra.  We also disable MSAA and use FXAA. We test AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) performance from the Resolution Scaling option. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing.

In Forza Horizon 5 we are running at 4K, at the highest custom in-game settings. All the video cards in this lineup are playable at 4K and maximum settings in this game and allow an enjoyable experience. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 8% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 11% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE outperforms the RTX 3090 by 18%, and the RTX 3090 Ti by 9%. The RX 6950 XT screams in this game, it’s simply much faster.

Far Cry 6

Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.

In Far Cry 6, we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings, minus Ray Tracing, and HD Textures are turned on. This game is very playable at these settings on all the video cards shown here, at 4K. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 8% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 7% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE outperforms the RTX 3090 by 10% and matches the RTX 3090 Ti in performance.

FSR greatly improves performance on all video cards. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE gets a 27% performance boost enabling FSR. This is 4% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT’s FSR performance. The RX 6950 XT once again screams in this game, offering a similar experience to the RTX 3090 Ti.

Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December of 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.52 and perform a long manual run-through driving in the game’s open world. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”.  This game supports DLSS and FSR. 

SAPPHIRE NITRO+ AMD Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE Cyberpunk 2077 Graph

In Cyberpunk 2077 we are running at 4K, at “Ultra” settings, minus Ray Tracing. Cyberpunk 2077 continues to be very demanding, and at 4K and “Ultra”, none of the video cards are playable until we utilize DLSS and or FSR. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 7% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 9% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE is outperformed by the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti.

DLSS and FSR greatly improve performance on all video cards. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE gets a 74% performance boost enabling FSR. This is 9% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT’s FSR performance. Overall, the video card which actually provides the highest performance is the OVERCLOCKED SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE with FSR enabled. It hits 60FPS average at 4K and therefore provides the smoothest experience at 4K.

Microsoft Flight Sim 2020 Game of the Year Edition

MS Flight Sim 2020 was released in August of 2020 but received a big update in November 2021 called the Game of the Year Edition update. This brought with it support for the DX12 API which we have enabled for testing. We are utilizing the game’s “Ultra” preset for graphics settings and live terrain is enabled. We perform a manual run-through of an activity landing in New York with an outside view camera.

In MS Flight Sim 2020 we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings. This game is very playable at these settings on all the video cards shown here, at 4K. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 2% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 1% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE is outperformed by the RTX 3090 and RTX 3090 Ti which provide much more performance.

Watch Dogs Legion

Watch Dogs Legion was released on the PC in October of 2020 and uses the Disrupt game engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and enabled for testing. We use the built-in graphics preset of “Ultra” for testing. This game supports DLSS upscaling.

In Watch Dogs Legion we are running at 4K, at the highest in-game settings, minus Ray Tracing. This game is very playable at these settings on all the video cards shown here, at 4K. The new SAPPHIRE NITRO+ Radeon RX 6950 XT PURE video card is 8% faster than the AMD Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking adds 9% more performance. The SAPPHIRE NITRO+ RX 6950 XT PURE outperforms the RTX 3090 by 8%. The RTX 3090 Ti and RX 6950 XT are very close in performance. Overclocked, the RX 6950 XT takes the lead in this game. DLSS greatly improves performance on the NVIDIA GPUs, allowing even higher framerates.
