Gameplay Performance
We are going to focus on 4K gameplay performance with the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti OC Edition video card. We will include DLSS and FSR performance on the same graph in the games that are supported. We will use DLSS on NVIDIA GPUs and FSR on AMD GPUs. Ray Tracing performance will be shown on a separate page. For video card comparisons we are using a Radeon RX 6900 XT video card.
F1 2022
F1 2022 was released on June 28th, 2022 on the PC and uses Codemasters Ego engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, AMD FidelityFX, and FSR. We are going to run the game with the highest quality settings of “Ultra High” and TAA+FidelityFX. We will enable DLSS and FSR as needed at the Quality setting for both. We will utilize the built-in benchmark in the Imola track, in dry conditions with a far chasing cam.
In F1 2022 we are running the game at 4K with the highest settings possible, sans Ray Tracing. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 3080 Ti OC Edition can play this game very well at 4K and the highest settings and provides 116FPS average FPS, which is very smooth. It’s slightly beaten by the Radeon RX 6900 XT by 4%, that is until we overclock it. By overclocking it, performance matches the Radeon RX 6900 XT exactly. The other factor is DLSS and FSR, with DLSS the ASUS video card improves performance by 30%, and on the Radeon RX 6900 XT FSR improves performance by 46%. Both video cards provide a similar gameplay experience.
Dying Light 2
Dying Light 2 was released in February 2022 on the PC and uses Techland’s C-Engine. The game supports Ray Tracing, DLSS, and FSR. We use the built-in preset to set “HIGH QUALITY” which sets the highest game graphics, without Ray Tracing. We manually enable DX12 and ASYNC Compute. For our benchmark, we are using a custom manual run-through at the end of the game hopping between rooftops, as well as free-roaming on the ground city level, as well as a forested area, in the daylight.
In Dying Light 2 we are running the game at 4K and the highest in-game settings, sans Ray Tracing. We are also utilizing the new FSR2 mode on the Radeon RX 6900 XT. This game is very demanding at maximum settings, so it is very impressive that the ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Ti OC provides a playable gameplay experience at near 57FPS average. It’s about 11% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. Overclocking improves performance by 5% and brings performance to 60FPS average. DLSS and FSR2 also helps improve performance into the 80’s of FPS, on the ASUS card that’s a 53% performance improvement.
Forza Horizon 5
Forza Horizon 5 was released on PC in November of 2021 and it uses the ForzaTech game engine. For our evaluation, we raise the in-game graphic settings beyond the “Extreme” preset to the maximum game settings. In addition to the “Extreme” preset we raise SSAO Quality to Ultra, Reflection Quality to Extreme, SSR Quality to Ultra. We also disable MSAA and use FXAA. We test AMD FidelityFX Contrast Adaptive Sharpening (CAS) performance from the Resolution Scaling option. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing.
In Forza Horizon 5 we are running the game at 4K with the maximum in-game settings and TAA. This game performs well on all three video cards, the ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Ti OC video card is able to provide above 70FPS for smooth gameplay. Overclocking it improves performance by 4%. However, it is the Radeon RX 6900 XT that edges out the ASUS card by 8% in this game at 4K.
Far Cry 6
Far Cry 6 was released in October of 2021 and uses the Dunia Engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and turned on. We utilize the “Ultra” graphics preset which sets all options to the highest game settings. This game supports FSR upscaling.
In Far Cry 6, we are running the game at 4K with the highest settings and HD Textures. All three video cards allow fast and smooth gameplay at 4K above 80FPS. The ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Ti OC video card is around Radeon RX 6900 XT performance, and overclocking it improves performance by 4%. We can also enable FSR in this game and all three cards are around the same performance with FSR, which is above 110FPS.
Cyberpunk 2077
Cyberpunk 2077 was released in December of 2020 and uses the REDengine 4. We have the game patched to version 1.52 and perform a long manual run-through driving in the game’s open world. We test using the Graphics Preset option to set graphics settings, mainly “Ultra”. This game supports DLSS and FSR.
Cyberpunk 2077 is so demanding at 4K that we went ahead and lowered the in-game quality preset to “High” instead of “Ultra.” This way, the game is more playable, and not as bottlenecked. Therefore, at “High” and 4K the ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Ti OC video card is about 6% faster than the Radeon RX 6900 XT. At near 50FPS, performance is better, but even with overclocking we still find that the game isn’t really that playable until we utilize DLSS or FSR at 4K, even at “High” settings. With DLSS performance is around 72FPS, and this is just much better for gameplay.
Watch Dogs Legion
Watch Dogs Legion was released on the PC in October of 2020 and uses the Disrupt game engine. We utilize the built-in benchmark for testing. We have the HD Texture pack installed and enabled for testing. We use the built-in graphics preset of “Ultra” for testing. This game supports DLSS upscaling.
In Watch Dogs Legion we are running the game at 4K with the “Ultra” preset and HD Textures. This game is actually playable at “Ultra” on all three video cards. The ASUS TUF RTX 3080 Ti OC and Radeon RX 6900 XT are actually very competitive. Overclocking gives us a couple of FPS, but the real advantage is being able to utilize DLSS on the GeForce cards. This brings performance up into the 80s and just smokes the competition.
