Rendering Performance
We will now take a look at how rendering performance compares.
Cinebench R23
Cinebench R23 multi-core testing is going to be all about the core and thread count, so the higher core/threaded CPUs get the cookie here. However, we still see the Ryzen 7 7700X perform very well over the Ryzen 7 5800X, despite them both having the same core and thread count. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 29% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X, so that is very good considering they are both 8-core CPUs. The Intel Core i5-13600K is faster than the 7700X though, by 22%. The Ryzen 7 7700X has a 31% uplift over the 7600X.
In single-core performance, the Ryzen 7 7700X is pretty high up the charts. It’s 25% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X and slightly faster than the Intel Core i5-13600K. It is also a bit faster than the 7600X for single-core performance.
Blender Open Data Benchmark
Take note, the Blender Open Data Benchmark has changed, it now runs 3 scenes and spits out a “Samples per Minute” number, where higher samples are better.
Blender is another rendering application that will benefit from a higher core/thread count. That said, the Ryzen 7 7700X is 32% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X, despite having the same core count. The performance uplift versus the 7600X is also 32% because it matched the 5800X. We do find the Intel Core i5-13600K faster, however, by 13% due to the higher thread count.
In junkshop, the Ryzen 7 7700X is 27% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X and provides 31% more performance than the 7600X. The Intel Core i5-13600K is faster again, by 14%.
In classroom the Ryzen 7 7700X is 33% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X and about the same compared to the 7600X. The Intel Core i5-13600K is 12% faster.
V-RAY 5 Benchmark
In V-RAY 5 the battle of the cores and threads wins again, but we still see the Ryzen 7 7700X perform much faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X despite both having the same core/thread count. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 30% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X. Compared to the 7600X the 7700X offers a 31% performance improvement. The Intel Core i5-13600K is faster than the 7700X by 8%.
HandBrake
In HandBrake we are testing video transcoding/encoding performance. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700X does a fantastic job at improving encoding/transcoding video performance compared to the Ryzen 5000 series CPUs. The Ryzen 7 7700X is actually faster than the Ryzen 9 5950X! This is raw CPU performance as well, with no GPU assistance. The Ryzen 7 7700X is 26% faster than the Ryzen 7 5800X for video encoding performance. The Ryzen 7 7700X improves upon the 7600X by 21%. The Intel Core i5-13600K does outperform the Ryzen 7 7700X though by 15%.
