System Storage Benchmarks

3DMark

We are using 3DMark’s Storage Benchmark which tests common gaming workload traces. The benchmark tests loading Battlefield V, Call of Duty Black Ops 4, and Overwatch. It tests moving games by copying a Steam folder for CS:GO, and installing Outer Worlds from the Epic Games Launcher, and saving game progress in The Outer Worlds. It tests recording a 1080p gameplay video at 60FPS with OBS while playing Overwatch. We will graph the Overall Benchmark Score, higher is better.

3DMark Storage Benchmark Graph

In 3DMark Storage Benchmark, the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB PCIe Gen5 SSD has an overall score of 3516. This is the first SSD for us running this benchmark, over time we will have comparison data to fill up the graph. For now, we will put up a table of the individual results from the 3DMark Storage Benchmark testing.

ADATA LEGEND 970BandwidthAccess Time

PCMark 10

We are using PCMark 10’s Full System Drive Storage Benchmark. It outputs an overall score (higher is better) that is derived from the Bandwidth (higher is better) as well as access time (lower is better) results.

PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Graph

In PCMark 10’s full system drive storage benchmark, the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB SSD provides the highest score at 4030. This is the highest score we’ve seen in this benchmark. Importantly, we should look at how the performance of the ADATA LEGEND 970 compares to the previous generation ADATA LEGEND 960, as well as the previous fastest Gen4 SSD. Compared to the ADATA LEGEND 960 the new LEGEND 970 has a score that is 24% higher. Compared to the Netac NV7000-t, the ADATA LEGEND 970 is 15% higher.

PCMark 10 Storage Full System Drive Benchmark Average Access Time Graph

The average access time test in PCMark 10’s Storage Benchmark shows you a closer look at where things line up. The ADATA LEGEND 970 2GB SSD provides the best and fastest access time of 41 microseconds. This is the fastest access time we’ve seen on an SSD. This puts the ADATA LEGEND 970 at a 20% faster access time compared to the ADATA LEGEND 960, and 13% faster access time compared to the Netac NV7000-t.

PCMark 10 Storage Quick System Drive Benchmark Graph

In the above graph, we are testing PCMark 10’s Quick Storage Benchmark, which utilizes a lighter workload of traces meant for smaller drives, it provides an interesting contrast to the wide-ranging test of the full benchmark above. We really see the benefit of the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB SSD in this test when it comes to these smaller workloads. The ADATA LEGEND 970 simply rockets forward and blows the other SSDs out of the water for quick access and small file sizes. At a score of 5030, it is 46% higher than the ADATA LEGEND 960 and 41% higher than the Acer Predator GM7000. The fast DRAM cache on the LEGEND 970 is playing a part in this test, and it shows.

SUMMARY

We reviewed the ADATA LEGEND 970 2TB PCIe Gen5 M.2 NVMe SSD, which introduces 10,000MB/s read/write PCIe Gen5 SSD performance in a slim form factor with a patented heatsink and active cooling solution. This NVMe 2.0 SSD features a DRAM cache, SLC Cache and a Phison E26 controller with 232-layer 3D NAND Flash to offer incredible performance in every metric, beating Gen4 SSDs. The active cooling solution is eloquent, if a bit loud. The price is high, and the value is in the performance and slim form factor for any build.
