Gameplay Performance with Ray Tracing

In this section, we use the same comparison setup, while enabling Ray Tracing features in each game. We also enable FSR or DLSS, again depending on the game and video card(s) used.

Returnal

Well then, which result do you like? Neither card can make the magic 60FPS without help, but it’s so close. If you overclock you tie and if you don’t you find yourself at a 3% disadvantage. Opposite when upscaled. Interesting result. Both cards are good enough when upscaled. Very nice indeed.

Forspoken

Neither of the cards has much of a chance without upscaling. Still, the SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC is quicker by 14% here. Upscaled the RTX 4060 Ti 8GB still cannot manage the 60FPS barrier and is behind by 32%. Nice smooth gameplay in FSR by the SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC.

Callisto Protocol

Marginally playable FPS by the SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC without help. Much smoother and quicker with FSR enabled. Actually, both cards are nearly equal in performance with FSR. TheSAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC is quicker by 8% without upscaling. Very nice to see playable results without FSR.

Chernobylite Enhanced Edition

Entirely different game with Ray Tracing enabled and not in a good way. Look back and see a 60% loss of FPS when you enable “ultra” Ray Tracing, yikes. When you try to counter that with DLSS/FSR only the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB has enough, but barely. The SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC is almost playable though… One of the few games in our suite where the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB has been the faster. Here by roughly 16% either way.

Dying Light 2

Another game where the cards are not playable without upscaling. We see the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB pull ahead just minimally without upscaling, but in the 40 FPS range it is a shallow victory, but 7% is still 7%. The margin is a bit greater with upscaling at 10%. Still, both cards are playable, a good thing.

Cyberpunk 2077

You simply can’t make this better, no matter how hard you try. The game is too much for these two graphic cards. Although we can double performance with upscaling, it isn’t enough, not nearly enough. You need to find some kinder settings for these cards to be playable. The GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB is 16% faster.

SUMMARY

This review evaluates a new video card line for SAPPHIRE, the PURE. We reviewed the SAPPHIRE PURE Radeon RX 7700 XT GAMING OC. Compared to the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB FE this video card was more feature packed and performed better across the board with few exceptions. The only point of contention is the price tag, but we think the features, cooling, build quality and performance make up for that.
