Overview
The Seasonic VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0 packaging is a good bit smaller than we saw with the massive 1600W Prime recently saw. That said, it is very much like what Seasonic has been using for its various product lines over the last number of years. The front of the package is bare of information save for the advertising about the 10-year warranty, and the 80 Plus Gold seal (Editor’s note: we received this unit prior to the warranty being upgraded to 12 years). When we check the 80 Plus website we find that this unit is listed and, as such, we will see how it does in this regard later.
The rear of the packaging has a lot more in the way of advertising as we find advertisements for the FDB fan, fan controller, voltage regulation, ATX 3.0 compatibility, 16-pin PCIe Gen 5 Cable (12VHPWR), etc. This is in addition to the efficiency graph and found here as well. The side of the package has the power label (reproduced below) and the connector count (reproduced below).
The VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0 is advertised as being a single 12v rail power supply with a capacity of up to 70A (or ~99% of the unit’s capacity) if necessary. The minor rails (5v and 3.3v) have a capacity of 20A each and the combined capacity of those two rails is 100W. Combined with these outputs, we find that this unit has 2 ATX12v/EPS connectors, 3 PCIe connectors, 16 SATA connectors, 2 3.3v SATA connectors, 3 Molex connectors, and 1 12VHPWR connectors.
Once we open the VERTEX GX-850 ATX 3.0 packaging we find the power supply, mounting screws, modular cables, the power cord, Velcro straps, zip ties, power supply tester, and the user manual. The user manual comes in two parts and covers some basic installation, warranty, and troubleshooting items. Let’s move on to the unit itself now.
