Throughput Benchmarks (SEQ and RND)

CrystalDiskMark

We are using CrystalDiskMark to benchmark sequential and random throughput of read and write performance. For these NVMe SSDs, we are using the NVMe profile in CrystalDiskMark. This tests SEQ1M Q8T1, SEQ128K Q32T1, RND4K Q32T16, and RND4K Q1T1.

The rated sequential speed on the Lexar NM790 2TB with Heatsink SSD is 7400MB/s read and 6500MB/s write. In CrystalDiskMark SEQ1M Q8T1 we are not only reaching those speeds but surpassing them for read and write. We get 7449MB/s read and 6642MB/s write performance, so we are exceeding the write performance just a bit more.

You can see how well this competes, first of all beating the Lexar NM710 in raw performance by quite a bit, 46% higher read speeds and 51% higher write speeds. Compared to the Teamgroup MP44 and Lexar NM800 PRO it is right on par with those in terms of read speed. In write speed, it’s on par with the Teamgroup MP44 but does exceed the Lexar NM800 PRO’s write speed by 5%.

In SEQ128K Q32T1 the Lexar NM790 2TB SSD with Heatsink is again hitting its rated speeds, and exceeding them quite a bit in write performance. This puts it on par with the Teamgruop MP44, and faster than the Lexar NM800 PRO in write performance.

Lexar NM790 with Heatsink 2TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD CrystalDiskMark RND4K Q32T16

In RND4K Q32T16 performance the Lexar NM790 2TB SSD with Heatsink starts to fall behind a bit, it was really competitive in sequential performance, but random seems to fall back just a bit with the Teamgroup MP44 and Lexar NM800 PRO. It’s still much faster than the Lexar NM710 though, and offers 47% higher read speed and 25% higher write performance. When compared to the Teamgroup MP44, it’s close to the write performance but falls back just a bit on read performance. The Lexar NM800 PRO is very strong in random write performance and takes the cake for that one.

In RND4K Q1T1 performance, the Lexar NM790 2TB SSD with Heatsink isn’t as far behind, in fact redeems itself here and offers competitive performance with the Teamgroup MP44 and more performance than the Lexar NM710. The Lexar NM800 PRO edges out all the SSDs here in read-and-write performance.

ATTO

Lexar NM790 with Heatsink 2TB PCIe Gen4 M.2 NVMe SSD ATTO Disk Benchmark

Using the popular ATTO Disk Benchmark, the Lexar NM790 2TB SSD with Heatsink is very strong, offering both faster read and write performance compared to the Teamgroup MP44 slightly. It also offers higher write performance than the Lexar NM800 PRO. It also offers a substantial upgrade over the Lexar NM710 with 44% higher read performance and 49% higher write performance.

SUMMARY

In our Lexar NM790 SSD review, we found that it offers top-tier Gen4 SSD performance, without a DRAM cache, but offers fast access time, great sequential read and write performance, and good random performance. You'll find fast loading times for games, fast file copy times, and even workstation capable. The integrated heatsink cools well, and provides stable performance without throttling. The price is steeper than the competition, but the integrated heatsink makes up the difference.
