Square Enix’s future AAA titles, including what will presumably be a FINAL FANTASY XVII and a third installment of its FFVII REMAKE series, will be available not only on PS5 and PC, but also Nintendo and Xbox platforms, according to a new “Medium-term Business Plan” document that Square Enix has published on its website for investors, one where the Japanese company explains how it’s “aggressively” pursuing a multiplatform strategy for its past and future games, including AAA titles. A release date for the PC version of FFVII REBIRTH, Square Enix’s latest big-budget RPG, is yet to be announced.
An overview of Square Enix’s new multiplatform strategy:
- “Aggressively pursue a multiplatform strategy that includes Nintendo platforms, PlayStation, Xbox,
- and PCs.”
- “Build an environment where more customers can enjoy our titles in regards to major franchises
- and AAA titles including catalog titles.”
- “Devise a platform strategy for SD titles, too, that includes not only iOS and Android, but also the
- possibility of PC launches.”
- “Maximize the acquisition of new users when launching a title and that of recurring users after
- starting management of game operation.”
Square Enix also said it would be stepping up digital sales as one of its ways for diversifying earnings:
Maximize digital sales of new titles. Pursue initiatives designed to win over PC users, which represent a growth market. Extend title lifecycles and strengthen earnings base by expanding sales of catalog titles. Engage in strategic sales & marketing through collaboration between publishing functions in Japan and overseas.
