DOOM: The Dark Ages is reportedly the title for the next game which has been rumored to have been in development for four years now. DOOM: The Dark Ages is said to be a medieval-inspired/themed entry that could serve as some sort of prequel. The new game is believed to be the one revealed last year during the FTC vs. Mircosoft case. At the time Microsoft was in the midst of its legal battles to acquire Activision and a trove of information for games in development was made public for it, Sony, and many other companies including Bethesda who then listed it as DOOM: Year Zero.
Not much else was said about DOOM: Year Zero, beyond a potential FY 23/24 release which would also include DLC but multiple sources have now confirmed the working title has moved on to become DOOM: The Dark Ages. Fans have also recently spotted a trademark filing by Bethesda’s parent company Zenimax Media which has used a longstanding DOOM cheat code for its name. The “IDKFA” code was used back in January and many are assuming it is for the upcoming game. It has been reported that the new game will be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase on June 9 and that it will be a multiplatform title launch for PlayStation 5, Xbox, and PC.

“Insider Gaming understands that the next game in the DOOM franchise is set to be revealed during this year’s Xbox Games Showcase on June 9. The game, which has been under the codename/placeholder title ‘Year Zero’ is understood to have the final name ‘DOOM: The Dark Ages’ and has been in development for at least four years.”

“We can corroborate Insider Gaming and Nate’s reports on DOOM: The Dark Ages. Although I didn’t have the name, multiple sources confirmed to me over the past few weeks that DOOM is heading to the Xbox Games Showcase 2024. The game’s working title was DOOM: Year Zero, originally leaked via the FTC last summer, and it seems that DOOM: The Dark Ages will be a prequel of sorts.”
