Star Citizen, the ambitious multiplayer space trading and combat simulation game that developer and publisher Cloud Imperium Games launched all the way back in 2012 as part of a successful Kickstarter campaign, has managed to cross $700 million in crowdfunding, according to the latest data found on Roberts Space Industries, the official site for the long-gestating project. The funds stem from over 5 million Star Citizens who had pledged their support for the game, which now includes an additional single-player component (i.e., Squadron 42) but still lacks a clear release date.

Funding stats at the time of this writing:

  • Funds raised: $701,777,380
  • Star Citizens: 5,241,343
