Minecraft, the 3D sandbox game from Mojang Studios that is partially known for being the best-selling video game in history, with over 300 million copies sold, is being adapted into an animated series, according to a new announcement that can be found on the official Minecraft site, one that explains how the studio has teamed with Netflix to produce a series set in the game’s blocky universe. This marks Netflix’s latest attempt at video game adaptations, having already released shows based on franchises that include The Witcher, Castlevania, Cyberpunk, and more.
Minecraft.com reports:
- “Just as we’ve wrapped up our 15-day long 15th anniversary celebration, we have even more exciting news to share with all of you.”
- “We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve joined forces with Netflix to produce an animated series set in our blocky universe.”
- “The series will tell an original story with new characters and reflect the world of Minecraft in a new light.”
- “It is currently in development by the talented studio WildBrain (creators of Sonic Prime, Ninjago: Dragons Rising, and Carmen Sandiego) and will debut exclusively on Netflix.”
