Developers for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II have revealed how Microsoft’s budget-oriented Xbox has limited the sequel’s size. Warhorse Studios recently attended the Game Access conference in the Czech Republic where producer Martin KlÃma spoke about how the game’s scope is only 25% larger than the first game. He explained this was due to the limited memory specifications of the Xbox Series S which only has 10 GB of RAM, by comparison, both the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 feature 16 GB which also happens to be a common configuration among many PC users.
It has been said that this is not the first time that limitations of the Xbox Series S have caused additional for a game developer. Just last year Larian Studios had to do some damage control when rumors that the only console version for Baldurs Gate 3 would be for the PlayStation 5. It turned out that an Xbox version was in the works but delayed because of trying to get a feature to run on both the Series X and S with the ladder being the holdup. The game did eventually launch for Xbox Series X|S.
Per Larian Studios (via Reddit):
“Xbox players, we’ve seen your questions about if/when you can expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on Xbox. We’ve had an Xbox version of Baldur’s Gate 3 in the works for some time, but we have run into some technical issues – particularly with split-screen co-op. We are still working on an Xbox version of BG3, but we’re not yet confident enough to announce it. We don’t like announcing anything until we’re ready, because we don’t want to get peoples hopes up until we’re sure we can deliver.”
Unsurprisingly another limitation, but this time for all console owners, is that the game will be locked at 30 FPS. This too has happened recently with console versions of Dragon’s Dogma 2 and Hellblade 2. However, once again the hardware limitations of the Xbox Series S will take things down a step further with a resolution/framerate of 1440p/30 FPS vs. 4K/30 FPS for the Series X and PS5.
Per Zing.cs (machine translated):
“Players on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X can expect 4K resolution (whether it’s native, we’ll have to wait, but I’d assume some upscale) and 30 FPS . The Xbox Series S will also offer 30 frames per second, but in 1440p resolution .”
Meanwhile, Warhorse Studios has yet to reveal the recommended hardware requirements for Kingdom Come: Deliverance II. However, while optimizations are still being worked on, things are looking pretty good. According to its developers (via Wccftech) a high-end system with an AMD Ryzen 7950X3D CPU and RTX 4080 Super can run the game at 60 FPS in 4K using the Very High setting and managed over 80 FPS using NVIDIA DLSS. Warhorse Studios showed off some of the game’s new animations running on PC last month.
