Power and Temperature

To test the power and temperature we perform a manual run-through in Cyberpunk 2077 at “Ultra” settings for real-world in-game data. We use GPU-Z sensor data to record the results. We report on the GPU-Z sensor data for “Board Power” and “GPU Chip Power” when available for our Wattage data. For temperature data, we report the GPU (Edge Temp of the GPU or Package Temp) as well as Hot Spot (Junction Temperature) when available for our temperature data.

Board Power Graph

The GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER has a total board power of 215W, while the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER has a total board power of 220W. In our testing, while gaming, both video cards exactly matched the total board power draw at 222W in our testing. That means the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER is producing at least 100% more performance, within the same power envelope as the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER. That’s just a tremendous, and exciting fact. If you need to upgrade, then you won’t have to change your power supply, it will not consume more power, even though it’s a lot faster.

GPU Chip Power Graph

Looking at just GPU Chip Power, the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER uses only 6% more power, for the GPU chip.

GPU Temperature Graph

Both video cards are Founders Edition models. What’s interesting is that the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER actually runs cooler at 68.7c, despite the same power draw, that RTX 2070 SUPER runs a little warmer.

GPU Hot Spot Temperature Graph

Looking at GPU Hot Spot, the RTX 4070 SUPER is running about 5 degrees hotter, but both are very close.
