The PC port for The Last of Us Part II Remastered, a definitive version of Naughty Dog’s original post-apocalyptic sequel that drew substantial controversy upon its release by the way some of its characters were handled, has actually been finished since “at least” November 2023 but is being held back, possibly to coincide with the season two premiere of The Last of Us show on HBO starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, according to new details and speculation shared by billbil-kun, an insider who’s best known for his PlayStation leaks, including, more recently, God of War Ragnarök’s PC port. The Last of Us Part I released on September 2, 2022 and March 28, 2023 for PS5 and PC, respectively, while the first episode of the HBO series dropped on January 15, 2023.
billbil-kun writes:
- “…The Last of Us Part II is well under development on PC. This had even started since at least 2021.”
- “Furthermore, and this is the most important information in this article, we believe that the development of the game is well finished, and this dates back to at least November 2023.”
- “So, we can wonder about the reasons for such a lack of release so far. Especially since the game was already released in a remastered version in January 2024 on PS5.”
- “Could a simultaneous release with season 2 of the HBO series scheduled for 2025 be the cause?”
