The pre-order CG trailer for Black Myth: Wukong debuted during the opening ceremony for this year’s Game Fest and revealed its release date. Pre-order links are now up on Steam, Epic, and WeGame and it didn’t take long for it to be noticed that the Xbox version was no longer being mentioned. Black Myth: Wukong launches for PC and PlayStation 5 only on August 20.

Black Myth: Wukong Pre-Orders Now Available
“Embark on an epic journey with “Black Myth: Wukong”, a single-player action RPG developed by Game Science, inspired by the classic “Journey to the West”. The game will be globally released on August 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM Beijing Time (UTC+8) and will be available on PS5, Steam, Epic Games Store, and WeGame.
The pre-order CG trailer premiered at the 2024 Summer Game Fest Opening Ceremony, and digital pre-orders are now live across multiple platforms. Details of the physical Deluxe Edition and Collector’s Edition have also been revealed.

The developers have explained on their FAQ that it is taking longer than expected to get the Xbox version up to par with the PC and PlayStation 5 versions. Now while the developer did not specifically mention the Xbox Series S as the system that is creating the challenge in getting the game ready for Microsoft’s consoles, that specific model has already led to delays for other games on Xbox in the last 12 months.
Per Heishenhua (via Pre-Order FAQ page):
“PC and PS5 users can enjoy the full game starting August 20, 2024. We are currently optimizing the Xbox Series X|S version to meet our quality standards, so it won’t release simultaneously with the other platforms. We apologize for the delay and aim to minimize the wait for Xbox users. We will announce the release date as soon as it meets our quality standards.”

For the Destined One learning about this game for the first time, here are a few tips:
- Black Myth: Wukong is an action RPG rooted in Chinese mythology. You shall set out as the Destined One to venture into the challenges and marvels ahead, to uncover the obscured truth beneath the veil of a glorious legend from the past.
- We have released over 60 minutes of gameplay footage. If interested, please search for “Black Myth” or “Black Myth: Wukong” on YouTube and other major video platforms for more details.
- The game is adapted from China’s most famous fantasy novel, “Journey to the West”. Reading it beforehand will enhance your experience with extra surprises (though not reading it will not detract from your enjoyment of the game).
Ray Tracing Requirements:
When Black Myth: Wukong launches on PC it will support ray tracing and users will need 130 GB of storage space to install the game. 16 GB of memory is required for 1080p/1440p and 32 GB for 2160p. While a GeForce RTX 3060 can be used for 1080p Game Science recommends a GeForce RTX 40 series GPU due to DLSS 3.5 providing even higher framerates.
