Microsoft has already released four fan-favorite Xbox games for the Nintendo Switch and/or PlayStation 5, including Pentiment, Hi-Fi RUSH, Grounded, and Sea of Thieves, but more first-party games will be coming to Nintendo and Sony’s rival consoles in the coming future, according to new statements shared by Xbox chief Phil Spencer. Spencer, who shared the news in an interview following yesterday’s Xbox Games Showcase, also expressed his enthusiasm about an Xbox handheld, suggesting that the device, while not yet confirmed, could very well be announced in a future event.

Spencer said:

  • “Our commitment to our Xbox customers is you’re going to get the opportunity to buy or subscribe to the game, and we’re going to support the game on other screens.”
  • “You are going to see more of our games on more platforms, and we just see that as a benefit to the franchises that we’re building, and we see that from players, and the players love to be able to play.”
  • “I think we should have a handheld, too. The future for us in hardware is pretty awesome. The work that the team is doing around different form factors and different ways to play, I’m incredibly excited about.”
  • “Today was about the games… but we will have a time to come out and talk more about platform.”
  • “I like my ROG Ally, my Lenovo Legion Go, my Steam Deck. I think being able to play games locally is really important.”

The original word from Spencer:

Spencer mentioned back in March:

I want my Lenovo Legion Go to feel like an Xbox I brought [the Legion Go] with me to GDC. I’m on the airplane and I have this list of everything that makes it not feel like an Xbox. Forget about the brand. More like: Are all of my games there? Do all my games show up with the save [files] that I want? I’ll tell you one [game] that doesn’t right now — it’s driving me crazy — is Fallout 76. It doesn’t have cross-save.

I want to be able to boot into the Xbox app in a full screen, but in a compact mode. And all of my social [experience] is there. Like I want it to feel like the dash of my Xbox when I turn on the television. [Except I want it] on those devices.
