DOOM: The Dark Ages, the latest installment of id Software’s genre-defining first-person shooter series, is coming to not only PC (via Steam), Xbox Series X|S, and Game Pass, but also PlayStation 5, and if there’s one person that Sony fans can thank for that, it’s Marty Stratton, studio director at id Software. Speaking in a new interview, Xbox head Phil Spencer revealed that Stratton simply wanted to sell the game “on all platforms,” and the rest is history.
Spencer mentioned:
- “Doom is definitely one of those franchises that has a history of so many platforms.”
- “It’s a franchise that I think everyone deserves to play. When I was in a meeting with Marty a couple years ago, I asked Marty what he wanted to do…”
- “…he said he wanted to sell it on all platforms. Simple as that.”
Some of Stratton’s notable credits include:
- Quake II (2023, Windows)
- Quake (2021, Windows)
- Doom³: BFG Edition (2012, Windows)
- Doom³: Resurrection of Evil (2005, Xbox)
- Quake III: Team Arena (2000, Windows)
- Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part Two (2021, Windows)
- Doom Eternal: The Ancient Gods – Part One (2020, Windows)
- Starfield (2023, Windows)
