Cybertruck deliveries are reportedly being halted until new wiper blade motors arrive; for some, this could be weeks. New owners have said via Reddit that their pickup dates have been pushed back by at least a week. At least one person has reported the misfortune of finding out after arriving at a dealership to pick up their new vehicle and was turned away because it was in “confinement hold”.
Meanwhile, current owners are reporting on Cybertruck Owners Club, and the official Cybertruck Facebook page, that it could be week(s) before parts arrive for their vehicles, and are being given the choice of waiting or leaving their Cybertruck at the dealership until the new parts have been installed. Ironically, Tesla advertises the Cybertruck (via its website) as “Built for any planet. DURABLE AND RUGGED ENOUGH TO GO ANYWHERE.” but presently that tagline could be amended to “that doesn’t have rain”.
Per Cybertruck Owners Club:
“I picked up on Tuesday in Florida and left and made it 20 miles and it started pouring raining. Had to sit in a Dunkin Donuts for 3.5 hours and call Tesla roadside assistance because i couldn’t see. They took it to the SC and said it would be a few weeks before the wiper motor could be replaced. Once the rain passed, i took the CT and added some Rainx for now. But it was super dangerous…had to open my window and hang out the window to see until I could get to a safe place with the wiper not working.”
and another,
“My wiper has not worked for a while was told to wait for few weeks for a wiper motor. Option was they keep the truck or I reschedule. Took the truck back.. crazy !”
Whether required by the Federal government or discovered after owners were reporting and complaining, there seems to be no end in sight for recalls for the Cybertruck, which ranges in price, according to Car and Driver, from just over $81K to over $101K. As the latest round of Cybertruck deliveries are reportedly being halted for a feature most vehicle owners would expect just to work one has to wonder when the premier EV truck will be fully matured for the general public.
Per Engadget:
“Tesla previously had to pause Cybertruck deliveries this spring, when it issued a recall over faulty accelerator pedals that could get stuck. The problem affected around 3,878 Cybertruck vehicles. In this case, the fix was fairly simple (installing a rivet) and deliveries resumed soon after.”
