Shattered Space, the first expansion for Starfield, Bethesda Game Studio’s 2023 space-faring action RPG, remains on track for launch, but it will not be the game’s last when it arrives for PC and Xbox Series X|S players later this year, director Todd Howard has revealed. Speaking in a new interview that was published yesterday with MrMattyPlays, Howard, who is now in his mid-50s, confirmed that his team is not only planning a second expansion already, but that Bethesda is “more or less” aiming to do annual expansions, potentially delivering new and major story content every year.

Howard said when asked about annual expansions:

  • “I would say we wanna…more or less…yeah…how long that continues…hopefully, a very long time.”
  • “We’re planning for the one after this, so there will be another one.”
  • “I don’t know that our goal is to answer every question…we sort of look at it and say, ‘hey, what’s a good angle…what do we want to add to the game as far as an experience’…”
  • “…the vehicle [that we’re working on for Starfield] is awesome.”
