GOG’s DRM-free games can now be purchased and played via Amazon Luna, the online retailer’s cloud gaming service. GOG announced its partnership with Amazon back in March letting owners of games from GOG know that they’ll soon be getting the option of cloud gaming and that option is now officially here. For now, there are some limitations both in accessible regions and the number of games that are available in Luna but GOG has said that it will be adding titles regularly.

“We are excited to team up with Amazon Luna to give customers more choice and flexibility in how they play. We trust Amazon to maintain GOG’s high standard for player experience, no matter where they play. This is a great opportunity to get our platform in front of a new audience of gamers on Fire TV and Fire tablets. This is just the beginning, and we will be adding more titles on an ongoing basis”

Maciej Gołębiewski, Managing Director

Per GOG, “Play your way“:

“It’s super simple. Luna is available in the USA, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Austria, and the Netherlands. If you’re a resident of any of these countries just head over to Luna’s cloud gaming website. There, you can link your GOG account to your Amazon Luna service, and if you have Prime Gaming or Luna+ subscription (with the latter granting access to more titles) you’re good to go!”

and

“At the moment, there are over 40 awesome titles available to play via Luna, like Deus Ex: Mankind DividedStardew ValleyGhostrunner 2Hollow Knight, or Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous – Enhanced Edition. And, as a cherry on top, you can get all of them on our Summer Sale discounts!”

Game owners need only to link their accounts to play GOG’s DRM-free games via Luna. Amazon also has its own Luna controller which has been specifically designed for low-latency cloud gaming and allows users to play on their TV without the need of a PC. However, those who have other preferred devices for playing their favorite games can still do so. Supported devices include PCs, MacBooks, Chromebooks, iOS, and Android mobile devices. Select LG and Samsung Smart TVs are also supported along with Fire TV devices. Keyboard+mouse is supported as is PlayStation 4 and Xbox One controllers. Amazon further adds how the new partnership has coincided with its expanded accessibility, also mentioned above, in the Netherlands, Poland, and Austria.

Per Amazon:

“Today, we welcome gamers in Austria, the Netherlands, and Poland to the Luna family. In addition to the growing selection of games from the GOG game store, customers in these countries can now start playing hit games like Fortnite, retro favorites, casual titles, and AAA releases — all without lengthy game downloads or updates, expensive hardware upgrades, or complicated configurations. Simply access Luna on a compatible device and start playing.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
