A free Halo Game focusing on the events that transpired on the Mona Lisa during an outbreak is in the works. Of course, the big question is whether or not Microsoft will let a free Halo game to see the light of day but anything is possible. The game is being made in Unreal Engine 5 by Kaleb Nekumanesh who worked for 343 Industries on Halo Infinite as its Campaign World Level Designer and has extensive experience using Unreal Engine 4 and 5 and 343 Industries Slipspace Engine.
Per Kaleb’s LinkedIn page:
** Shipped HALO INFINITE on PC and Consoles using 343’s Proprietary Slipspace Engine **
- Designed spaces intended to feature gameplay, narrative moments, and exploration for the campaign of Halo Infinite
- Design and sculpt terrain and gameplay assets to fit the gameplay, story, and artistic needs of the space
- Worked on various levels from concept to polish
- Wrote design documentation for the purpose of pitching to leads and directors
- Worked with art, narrative, and design leads to ensure the levels are hitting the goals of all the teams involved
- Playtested and iterated on levels and combat encounters
- Built combat encounters around several POIs in the Halo Infinite Campaign
Kaleb has released a teaser trailer for the upcoming fan-made project while there is no mention of any ray tracing effects one does have to wonder given the emphasis on lighting and shadows. There’s also a strong Alien vibe but given the Outbreak subject matter that is to be expected. Kaleb has not said exactly when the Mona Lisa will be released other than “very soon”.
Return to Alpha Halo and learn the mysteries of the Mona Lisa while trying to survive a flood outbreak.
