VAIO Vision+, a new portable monitor that is said to be the world’s lightest mobile display ever, featuring a weight of just 325 grams and a skeletal design with carbon fiber, will be available in Japan beginning this week, VAIO Corporation, the company behind what was once Sony’s PC brand, has announced. The display, which measures 12.4 and 3.9 mm thick at its widest and thinnest points, respectively, features not only a kickstand, but also a origami-style cover stand that allows it to be easily placed above a laptop screen for a dual-monitor setup, according to promo images that VAIO shared.

The back panel of the main unit is made of three-dimensionally molded carbon that is both lightweight and strong. Inside, the bosses that join each part and the ribs that support it from the inside are molded as a single unit, reducing the number of materials needed for adhesion, strengthening rigidity and reducing weight. The carbon is bent to the sides and molded three-dimensionally to achieve greater robustness.
