Resident Evil 9, the next mainline installment of Capcom’s survival horror series, will be directed by Koshi Nakanishi, the director behind some of the franchise’s most well-received titles, including Resident Evil 5 and Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, the 2017 game that introduced a first-person perspective to the series. Nakanishi shared the news yesterday, confirming in a new video about how a new Resident Evil game is currently in development.
Nakanishi’s credits include:
- Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (2017)
- Resident Evil: Revelations (2013)
- Resident Evil 5 (2009)
Nakanishi said:
- “We’re making a new Resident Evil.”
- “It was really difficult to figure out what to do after 7.”
- “But I found it, and to be honest, it feels substantial.”
- “I can’t share any details just yet, but I hope you’re excited for the day I can.”

Game description for RE7:
Set in modern day rural America and taking place after the dramatic events of Resident Evil 6, players experience the terror directly from the first person perspective. Resident Evil 7 embodies the series’ signature gameplay elements of exploration and tense atmosphere that first coined “survival horror” some twenty years ago; meanwhile, a complete refresh of gameplay systems simultaneously propels the survival horror experience to the next level.
