GAME, the British retailer best known for its selection of video games, consoles, and accessories, will no longer be accepting pre-orders at its brick-and-mortar locations beginning next month, according to the details of an internal staff memo that have been shared online. GAME Wallet, an account feature that functions as a purse or wallet for GAME funds, combining reward points, gift cards, and more, will also be discontinued next month, per the memo that was sent to employees.

From a report:

  • “It states that ‘as part of the continued integration into Frasers Group, GAME will cease taking in-store deposits for future releases, as of August 2024. As of this date, no further deposits will be able to be placed in GAME stores’.”
  • “It explains that ‘customers will still be able to pre-order new releases through GAME.co.uk for home delivery or purchase in store once released’.”
  • “Existing deposits and pre-orders on any products released up until January 31st, 2025 will be honored and are unaffected by this change.”
  • “It is strongly urged that customers spend all their credit they have in their GAME Wallet account on purchases at GAME.co.uk prior to the closure date.”
  • “The memo states that staff who are approached by the press should ‘not comment on this announcement’ with ‘further instructions’ regarding changes to in-store marketing displays to follow.”

GAME on what else is ending soon:

As of 31 July 2024 (“Closure Date”) the GAME ‘Reward’ Programme (“GAME Reward”) and the GAME Elite Membership Scheme (“GAME Elite”) shall come to an end, after which GAME Reward customers and GAME Elite Members (“Elite Members”) will no longer be able to earn GAME Reward points on purchases made in GAME stores or online at game.co.uk or redeem any GAME Reward or GAME Elite points (please see the GAME Reward and Elite closure FAQs here for further information) remaining on your GAME Reward account.
