A New Hunt: Showdown has been discovered on the ESRB website potentially meaning that Crytek could have a forthcoming surprise announcement. Hunt: Showdown is a multiplayer first-person shooter from Crytek, the creators of Crysis, which launched for PC and consoles in 2019 after being as a spiritual successor to Darksiders. It quickly captivated players with its fresh take on the genre and Crytek has supported the game with frequently added content and updates. Now it appears that another game could be in development.

Titled Hunt: Showdown 1896, the game description says the game is set in the Victorian era where players can get downright gruesome in hunting monsters, and other players. The game is listed as being made for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox.

Per ESRB:

“This is a first-person monster hunting game set in a fantastical version of the Victorian era. Players use bladed bats, clubs, brass knuckles, and pistols to kill zombie-like creatures and human rivals. Combat is highlighted by impact sounds, gunfire, and blood-splatter effects. Some weapons allow players to cave in zombies’ heads or to cut off their limbs. One type of zombie explodes into blood and viscera when killed; another type is depicted wearing human skin as a cape.”

Players of the current game have something to look forward to even as news about the possibility of a new Hunt: Showdown is making rounds. Crytek has been hard at work getting the next event ready which also marks its formal transition to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S while ending support on older consoles. Content and purchases from the older consoles will be transferrable to the new ones.

Per Crytek:

“The new era of Hunt includes an exciting launch to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.

As we already announced in Autumn 2023, this includes the termination of the online features and the deprecation of Hunt: Showdown on Xbox One and PlayStation 4. As a result, Hunt: Showdown will be removed and not playable on these platforms from 15th August.

If you currently play on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One, you will automatically receive a free upgrade to the new game on the next generation counterpart for your current platform, including all of your past purchases and progress.

We understand that this might be disappointing to some players that haven’t yet upgraded to the next generation of consoles, but rest assured your Hunt legacy will be ready and waiting as soon as you choose to make the switch to PlayStation 5/Xbox Series X|S.

Thank you for your understanding, and happy hunting!”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
