Power and Temperature
The default TGP rating for the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is 320W. Our NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition hit 311W on our Board Power testing according to GPU-Z. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER out-of-the-box hits 322.7W, so while it is higher, it’s within the default TGP spec. The slightly higher Wattage can be accounted for with the higher default GPU Boost Clock Speed we experienced with it, operating faster than the Founders Edition.
When we overclock the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER power increases by 10%, but remember, we are also increasing the GPU Voltage. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER does use 8% less power than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX at defaults. Of course, pushing the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER as hard as possible, it does exceed the RX 7900 XTX slightly.
In terms of GPU Temperature, or edge-temp, the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER is on par with the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition, which does have an impressive cooler of its own. This shows how well the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER video card is cooled. It is 6 degrees cooler than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX. When we overclock the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, and keep the fans on “automatic” temperatures only rise by 2 degrees, and again remember this is with a Voltage Increase as well, that’s pretty impressive.
The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Hot Spot temperatures are slightly warmer than the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER Founders Edition, but again the clock frequency is running higher. When we overclock the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER temperatures only rise 4 degrees, and that’s with a GPU Voltage Increase, again this is impressive, the fact that it doesn’t increase so much is a good thing. The ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER runs 14 degrees cooler than the Radeon RX 7900 XTX on Hot Spot.
GPU-Z Sensors Screenshots
On the left is the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER at default, and on the right is the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER when overclocked and GPU Voltage pushed up. You can see that at default the GPU Voltage is 1.0750V, but when we increase the Voltage in GPU Tweak III it increases to 1.1000V, so it is running higher. The fans were left on automatic, and by default they spun up to 46% but when overclocked they automatically spun up to just 50%, which isn’t a huge amount, and thus kept the fan noise down. You can see that we are hitting the TDP of the video card with it overclocked, hitting the maximum 10% power target allowance, and fully utilizing the overclock.
