Apple TV+, an all-original streaming service that features what Apple says are series and films from the world’s most creative storytellers, including Masters of the Air and, more recently, Presumed Innocent and Dark Matter, may be adding advertisements soon, according to a new report from the UK that explains how executives have been in talks with Barb, a local ratings body, to discuss options for tracking advertising. F1, an action drama film based on the popular motorsport that stars Brad Pitt and cost over $300 million to make thus far, is expected to reach the service next year following its theatrical release in June 2025.

From a report:

  • “Apple has held talks with the UK’s TV ratings body in the latest sign that the tech giant is planning to introduce adverts on its streaming service.”
  • “Executives met with Barb in recent weeks to discuss potential options for tracking adverts on Apple TV+.”
  • “Barb, which is jointly owned by broadcasters including the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and Sky, provides official viewing data for British TV.”
  • “However, the ratings agency would need to deploy additional data collection techniques to capture advertising.”

Apple on F1:

Starring Brad Pitt as a former driver who returns to Formula 1, alongside Damson Idris as his teammate at APXGP, a fictional team on the grid, “F1” has been shot during actual Grand Prix weekends as the team competes against the titans of the sport. Hailing from director Joseph Kosinski, Jerry Bruckheimer Films, Plan B Entertainment and seven-time F1 world champion Lewis Hamilton’s Dawn Apollo Films banner, the film is made in collaboration with Formula 1 and the F1 community, including the 10 F1 teams and their drivers, the FIA and race promoters.
