Rendering Performance
We will now take a look at how rendering performance compares.
Cinebench R23
We are using Cinebench R23 to look at multi-core and single-core performance, which is shown in separate graphs below.

The new AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is providing a 9% performance uplift compared to the Ryzen 5 9600X in multi-core performance uplift while operating at a lower power. This makes the Ryzen 5 9600X just 9% behind the higher 8-core Ryzen 7 7800X3D in Cinebench R23 multi-core performance. Naturally, the higher core/thread parts perform better here, and the 14600K is 45% faster.
Blender Open Data Benchmark
We are using the latest Blender Benchmark with Blender 4.2.0 downloaded, results are in samples per minute, with the highest being the best.

Core and thread count does matter for Blender rendering, so it isn’t surprising to see the 14700K and 14600K take the lead in this testing. Still, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X is 10% faster than the 7600X in monster, 9% faster in junkshop, and 10% faster in classroom compared to the 7600X. It’s actually not too far off from the Ryzen 7 7800X3D by being 16% slower in monster, 12% slower in junkshop and 13% slower in classroom.
V-Ray 6 Benchmark

In the V-Ray 6 Benchmark, the AMD Ryzen 5 9600X provides a substantial 20% performance uplift over the Ryzen 5 7600X. Keep in mind that the Ryzen 5 9600X is doing this while operating at less power, and the same core/thread count. In fact, at this performance level, the 9600X is only a small 5% slower than the Ryzen 7 7800X3D which has 8-cores. The 9600X is 20% slower than the 14600K, however.
HandBrake
In HandBrake, we transcode a 10-minute video file to the Creator 2160p60 4K H.264 profile preset, rendering on the CPU only. The time in minutes is reported, and lower is better.

Transcoding video in HandBrake was faster on the AMD Ryzen 5 9700X compared to the AMD Ryzen 5 7600X by about 20 seconds, or 1.4% faster. Naturally, core/thread count matters here, and the 8-core parts and the 14600K have a big lead if video content creation from the CPU is the most important thing.
