The Black Myth: Wukong developers have released a benchmarking tool for their upcoming game inspired by the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. While canned benches are often derided by professional reviewers for oft-inaccurate metrics due to their limited scopes of testing, some can still provide users with a rough idea of what to expect when playing the game. The Black Myth: Wukong developers are aware of this and have addressed that issue in the description for the benchmark tool explaining that the tool may not fully represent the actual gaming experience when the game launches.

Benchmark Description (via Steam):

  • “The “Black Myth: Wukong Benchmark Tool” is a PC benchmark application specifically developed for “Black Myth: Wukong”. It evaluates your hardware performance and system compatibility through the real-time rendering of an in-game sequence.”
  • “You can customize benchmark settings to preview game visuals and performance under different graphics options.”
  • “* Due to the complexity and variability of gaming scenarios, the benchmark results may not fully represent the actual gaming experience and final performance.”

Game Science has indicated very modest hardware requirements for the game, which is a bit surprising given its impressive, and hardware-demanding-looking visuals. The free utility will give PC users a taste of what to expect from the game before it launches on August 20 for PC and PlayStation 5. The benchmarking tool can be found on Steam here. Hardware requirements for installing the utility are listed below which beyond install size (9 GB vs. 130 GB), mostly match those of the game itself. The Black Myth: Wukong developers have included support for DLSS, FSR, XeSS upscaling options, and NVIDIA’s native resolution DLAA solution. The game was previously shown using ray tracing effects in an 8-minute 4K video when Game Science announced it had switched from UE4 to UE5.

Benchmark Recommended Hardware Requirements:

  • Processor: Intel Core i7-9700 / AMD Ryzen 5 5500
  • Memory: 16 GB RAM
  • Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 / AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT / INTEL Arc A750
  • DirectX: Version 12
  • Storage: 9 GB available space, SSD required

Final Trailer before the official launch

Below is the final trailer for the game and according the Game Science, all footage is taken from the PC version. It is also said to include previously unreleased combat gameplay, levels, characters, and cutscenes.

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
