Call of Duty HQ, a game launcher for the military first-person shooter series that Activision introduced alongside 2022’s Modern Warfare II and Warzone to deliver what it said (contrary to ongoing complaints) was an easy and optimized way for players to navigate all of the franchise’s content in one place, is getting a major revision, according to a new blog post from the Call of Duty team today that explains how it is updating the launcher with several improvements, including streamlined menus, smaller downloads, greater control over downloads, and a focus on games. The new UI will be available in mid-October, just ahead of the launch of Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, which is scheduled for release on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC on October 25.
The new experience will usher in:
- “A new streamlined interface.”
- “Direct access to games.”
- “More control over your downloads, including Call of Duty: Warzone content.”
- “Expanded streaming technology to reduce file sizes.”
An initial update that is set to release alongside Season 5 Reloaded on August 21 will include:
- “Game file reorganization.”
- “Separating Call of Duty: Warzone from the default download for annual titles.”
- “Implementing new texture streaming tech.”
Players will also find these new expanded texture streaming technologies:
- “Optimized (Default) – content appears at a high-fidelity graphical quality; increased internet bandwidth usage.”
- “Minimal – content appears at reduced graphical quality; lower internet bandwidth usage.”
A look at the roadmap:
Activision on the new UI:
The new user interface will introduce a Call of Duty landing zone where top content will be visible on one clean page without needing to scroll. The landing page’s main focus is on games, and gives players the ability to directly access those games.
The new landing page will feature our most recent annual title and Call of Duty: Warzone for ease of access. Other Call of Duty titles can be accessed via your games library or the “Last Played” tile if that is the game you played last.
