It was a big night for game announcements at Gamescom yesterday and Marvel Rivals is now expected to arrive on December 6. Marvel Rivals is a free-to-play team-based PVP shooter which was announced back in March, with a planned May release, that has now been pushed back to December. It has been said to have been inspired by Overwatch and is being developed by a team of Call of Duty veterans.

“We are ecstatic to be part of this year’s gamescom and the opportunity to connect with players from all across Europe,

”We are now entering the final stages of development as we march towards our December 6 release.”

Ethan Wang – Senior Vice President, NetEase, Inc

Per the official launch date announcement:

  • “The new Super Hero Team-Based PVP Shooter lets players assemble an ever-evolving all-star squad of Super Heroes and Super Villains, battling with unique powers across a dynamic lineup of destructible maps from across the Marvel Multiverse.”
  • “The highly-anticipated game will launch with all heroes free to play.”
  • “The newest map, the Intergalactic Empire of Wakanda, was also unveiled.”

Delisted Marvel Titles could soon be coming to Xbox

In other Marvel games-related news there is a rumor that Xbox is in talks to acquire licensing to bring some older Activision games to Xbox. Perhaps the recent box-office success of Deadpool and Wolverine is to blame as XboxEra has reported that Microsoft is trying to get Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Deadpool for Xbox.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2, and Deadpool were remastered for PC, Xbox One, and PS4 in 2015/2016, but according to reports are no longer currently available while Nintendo managed to snag exclusive rights for a 3rd game for the Nintendo Switch in 2019. If true, one might wonder if Microsoft could also acquire the rights to X-Men Legends games made in the same time period.

Per KitGuru:

  • “While Marvel does have some close ties to Sony at this stage thanks to the success of the PlayStation-exclusive Spider-Man games, Xbox has also been working on getting into the comic hero business, having forged a deal to make an exclusive game for Xbox and PC based on Blade.”

As a child of the 70’s I was part of the many who became enthralled by the video arcade invasion of the 1980’s. Saving money from various odd jobs I purchased my first computer from a friend of my dad, a used Atari 400, around 1982. Eventually it would end up being a lifelong passion of upgrading and modifying equipment that, of course, led into a career in IT support.
