Update 1.01, a new update for FINAL FANTASY XVI that delivers several improvements for the recently released PC demo of the action role-playing game, including better NVIDIA DLSS, AMD FSR, and Intel XeSS quality, is now available for download on Steam and the Epic Games Store, Square Enix has announced. The new demo, which was released on Monday, currently has a Mixed rating on Steam following the posting of several negative reviews from players, including some who have called the game “hilariously badly optimized.”
The changes include:
- “Improvements have been made to DLSS, FSR, and XeSS quality.”
- “Dynamic Resolution being locked on the lowest setting.”
- “Enemies not appearing properly in certain battle content.”
- “Graphics not displaying properly on certain stages.”
- “Graphical tearing in certain instances when using borderless screen mode.”
- “SFX not playing properly under certain conditions.”
- “UI not displaying properly under certain conditions.”
- “Screen resolution changing under certain conditions.”
- “Rare instances of GPU crashes.”
- “Other minor issues.”
Critics are saying:
- “The most significant problem is the constant drop to 30fps in cutscenes. All cutscenes drop the framerate to a locked 30fps, and these custscenes happen a LOT.”
- “hilariously badly optimized. If you put everything in the lowest settings, the models will understandably have less fidelity but the stones on the floor will be fully rendered 3 dimensional objects with high res textures. why?”
- “needs optimization badly, native ultra wide resolution would be nice, i have 7900xt 20 GB VRAM, ryzen 7 5700x and 32 GB RAM and this barely gets 35-40 fps on high setting 4k native resolution”
- “- 90 % Cinematics. 10% gameplay that is not very engaging so far. Feels like watching a 5/10 movie.”
