Control and Alan Wake, two of Remedy Entertainment’s leading game franchises, may soon be adapted for film and television, according to a new press release from Remedy that explains how it has formed a strategic partnership with Annapurna Pictures, one that will grant the independent media company television, film, and select audiovisual licensing rights for those properties, as well as related ancillary products. Control 2, a sequel to the 2019 action-adventure game that some may remember as being one of the first to feature real-time ray tracing, is also being largely financed by Annapurna as part of this deal.
Remedy writes:
- “Annapurna will finance 50% of the development budget for the upcoming Control 2 video game and gain the rights to expand the award-winning Control and Alan Wake franchises into film and television.”
- “As part of the deal, Annapurna will acquire an option to television, film, and selected audiovisual licensing rights for Control and Alan Wake as well as related ancillary products. Remedy will retain the full IP rights for Control and Alan Wake.”
- “Remedy will receive a greater revenue share from game sales after the initial investments have been recouped, proportional to the amounts invested. Conversely, Annapurna will receive a greater revenue share from the audiovisual productions.”
