LG Display has provided some updates regarding its gaming monitor business, and with it comes the news that the company behind the UltraGear brand has begun full-scale mass production of a 27-inch QHD gaming OLED panel that is capable of delivering refresh rates of up to 480 Hz, a number that LG says is the highest refresh rate among existing OLEDs on the market. The new 2560×1440 panel, which features a response time of 0.02 ms, is also said to deliver improved text readability thanks to an optimized WRGB (white, red, green, blue) pixel structure.

LG Display writes (machine translated):

  • “LG Display announced on the 29th that it will begin full-scale mass production of a 27-inch 480Hz QHD gaming OLED panel that has achieved the highest refresh rate and fastest response speed among existing OLEDs.”
  • “This product provides an overwhelming gaming experience with LG Display OLED’s three-dimensional picture quality, in which each pixel emits light without a backlight, an ultra-high refresh rate of 480Hz, an industry-leading 0.02ms response speed, and QHD (2560×1440) resolution.”
  • “As the injection rate increased, the response speed also broke a new record at 0.02ms (milliseconds, 1ms is 1/1000th of a second) based on GTG. It was shortened by 0.01ms from the previous maximum speed of 0.03ms.”
  • “Not only has the readability of characters been improved compared to before when playing games or working on documents through optimization of the WRGB (white, red, green, blue) pixel structure, but the immersion has been maximized with a 4-sided borderless design that minimizes the bezel, which is the width of the screen frame.”
  • “LG Display’s gaming OLED has improved picture quality by applying ‘ META Technology ‘ that maximizes the light emission of organic materials and combines proprietary algorithms , while also minimizing the ‘ image bleeding ‘ phenomenon where surrounding objects are reflected on the screen.”
