The latest rumors for NVIDIA’s upcoming GeForce RTX 5090/5080 gaming graphics cards reveal more good news could be on the horizon. It’s another day and another round of leaks regarding NVIDIA’s top two “Blackwell” GPUs and these details, should they prove accurate, are nothing but good news. An official release date, or announcement for that matter, has yet to be made but it is being repeatedly said none are to be expected before CES 2025. Now, according to Benchlife, the latest rumors for NVIDIA’s GeForce RTX 5090 and 5080 suggest those eyeing these top-tier graphics cards as their next upgrade have more incentives to consider for a purchase.
First, despite some recent speculation, both graphics cards are said to feature only one 12V-2×6 connector. This was hardly unexpected given that NVIDIA assuredly knew that it would be catastrophic to its sales to force two connectors, since most PC owners, if they own a PSU that features either 12V-2×6/12VHPWR connector at all, are likely only to have a model with only one of those connectors and would be hesitant to upgrade just for the upcoming GPUs. However, this does not mean some custom models won’t feature a second connector as some companies have already been doing that for multiple generations now. One other detail for the GeForce RTX 5080 is that it will feature 10,752 CUDA cores vs 9,728 for the GeForce RTX 4080, although very close to the RTX 4080 SUPER which features 10,240 CUDA cores. Both cards are also now said to support PCIe 5.0 and UHBR20 on DisplayPort 2.1a, something absent on NVIDIA’s previous GeForce RTX 40-series graphics cards.
Cherries on top for the GeForce RTX 5090
Benchlife’s sources have confirmed yesterday’s leaks but also added more information as well for the flagship GPU. It will reportedly have 21,760 CUDA cores vs 16,384 for the GeForce RTX 4090. It is also reported to have a 14-layer PCB. The GeForce RTX 5090 is shaping up to be a beastly powerhouse of a gaming graphics card.
