Welcome hub, a new personalized space with customizable widgets and backgrounds for the PS5 home screen that Sony rolled out earlier this month as part of an update that introduced several additional features for PlayStation 5 consoles, including Party Share, personalized 3D audio profiles, and adaptive controller charging, has been partially ruined by what some players are claiming to be full-screen ads, according to the latest complaints shared on social media. Defenders of Sony say that these aren’t actually ads, just harmless news stories, while others claim that this isn’t the case, with one asking why review scores for FFVII REBIRTH are being shown when hovering over FFVII REMAKE.
One complaint reads:
- “So it turns out that the recent PS5 UI update that let you disable all the advertisements on the dashboard was too good to be true.”
- “Now EVERY SINGLE GAME on your homescreen shows you an advertisement in the background with no way to remove them lol.”
The original word from @alfredobofa, which shows several of the “ads”:

Sony’s Hiromi Wakai said of the new PS5 Welcome hub in early September:
You can easily customize your Welcome hub by selecting from a variety of widgets, including console storage, battery levels for accessories, online friends, trophies, and many more. Use presets to quickly change your layout, and simply select and arrange a variety of widgets as you see fit. You can change the size of your widgets, expanding or shrinking them to give more focus to the features that are most important to you.
In addition, you can also change your Welcome hub’s background. Choose from a range of designs, including some with cool animated effects, or pick out a screenshot from your own Media Gallery for a truly personal touch.
