The Ryzen Z2 Series, a new family of processors that will continue the current lineup’s commitment of delivering what AMD has described as ultimate portability and battery life to the latest handheld PC gaming consoles, will be released in 2025 and comprise several models, including one that will count 12 AMD RDNA 3.5 compute units (CUs) within its specification sheet, according to claims that have been shared online. This “Ryzen Z2 Extreme” chip will purportedly be joined by the Z2 and “Z2G,” which similarly feature 12 CUs, but based on RDNA 3 and RDNA 2, respectively, while the Z2 Extreme X with 16 CUs has supposedly been canceled. AMD introduced its Ryzen Z1 “Zen 4” Series processors in April 2023, ushering in devices that included the ASUS ROG Ally.

The Ryzen Z1 Series features two high performance processors, the Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme, both offering industry-leading gaming experiences, uncompromising battery life, and featuring AMD RDNA 3 architecture-based graphics. AMD is partnering with Asus to launch the first Ryzen Z1 Series device with the Asus ROG Ally, a premium handheld PC console, featuring up to a Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor.
