Nintendo Switch 2 Will Feature Backward Compatibility and Support for Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo CEO Confirms

The Nintendo Switch 2, a successor to the original 2017 hybrid video game console that, according to recent reports, may not be getting an official unveil until March, will be launching with full support for current Switch titles, as well as support for Nintendo Switch Online, Nintendo’s online subscription service for the console. Shuntaro Furukawa, who became president of Nintendo in 2018, shared the news on Nintendo’s official X account yesterday, noting that more information about the Switch 2 will be coming at a later date. This is Furukawa. At today’s Corporate Management Policy Briefing, we announced that Nintendo Switch software will also be playable on the successor to Nintendo Switch. Nintendo Switch Online will be available on the successor to Nintendo Switch as well. Further information about the successor to Nintendo Switch, including its compatibility with Nintendo Switch, will be announced at a later date.
