Shuhei Yoshida, the Japanese businessman and gaming industry veteran who is best known for being one of the original and key drivers of the PlayStation brand, is retiring from Sony Interactive Entertainment after more than three decades with the company. Yoshida, who, among other career milestones, served as President of SIE Worldwide Studios for Sony Interactive Entertainment from 2008 to 2019 and was one of the initial members of the PlayStation project, announced the news this week in a podcast, explaining that he will be making his exit on January 15, 2025. “When I got this job where I could spend 100% of my time helping indies, it was like a dream job,” Yoshida said of his current role as Head of Indies Initiative at Sony Interactive Entertainment.

I’ve been with PlayStation from the beginning, and this is my 31st year with PlayStation. And when I hit 30 years, I was thinking, hmm, it may be about time for me to move on. You know, the company’s been doing great. I love PS5, I love the games that are coming out on this platform. And we have new generations of management who I respect and admire. And I’m so excited for the future of PlayStation.
