A newly leaked pitch video, which has already been taken down due to legal requests, shows an attempt to get a James Bond LEGO game made. According to multiple reports, the newly leaked pitch video was a 47-second trailer that was originally posted on a discord channel and then shared on multiple platforms such as YouTube and Reddit but each mirror has now since been either removed or blocked. The trailer was said to depict and/or recreate various iconic scenes from the 62-year-old franchise.
There’s been some speculation on exactly what kind of project was being pitched as some believe it was nothing more than some extra content for LEGO Dimensions but the OP states this is not the case. They go on to reply to those questioning what the project was meant to be by explaining that developer TT Games was aware of Dimensions having a limited run and instead was hoping to make a standalone game.
Per LEGOGameMuseum (via Reddit):
“This wasn’t actually for LEGO Dimensions year 3, it was produced as a pitch for The LEGO group to convince them to give the ok for a full game, it was made during the last year Dimensions was being worked on when Tt knew Dimensions wouldn’t get a third year of content. Once again, TLG decided Bond wasn’t suitable, and vetoed the project. I think this has been found in the data of a Dimensions build, which is where the confusion is coming from.”
The poster goes on to explain that The LEGO Group also had concerns regarding violence and sexual content as are common themes within the James Bond franchise. Fans familiar with various character names will surely remember more than a few that might not be deemed acceptable for an admittedly children’s game. They mention two such names in a follow-up reply but again, those who remember know there are many more than just two.
Per LEGOGameMuseum (via Reddit):
“This was around 2016, and LEGO specifically were not happy with the violence and sexual innuendo. Characters called ***** Galore and Plenty ****** wouldn’t really work in a family-friendly LEGO game.“
In closing the poster says that TLG could well choose to revisit the idea of making a James Bond game and re-tool its concepts into a family-friendly frame. The other obstacle, however, is what stipulations MGM might require for the use of its IP.
