TIME, one of the world’s most long-running and respected news publications, has announced that AMD’s Dr. Lisa Su is its CEO of the Year for 2024. Su, who leads red team as the company’s Chair and Chief Executive Officer, was previously recognized by Time’s editors as being one of the most influential people in AI, per a feature published in September 2024. Sam Altman (OpenAI), Eric Yuan (Zoom Video Communications), and Bob Iger (The Walt Disney Company) were TIME’s previous CEOs of the Year.
When she became CEO a decade ago, AMD stock was languishing around $3, its share of the data-center chip market had fallen so far that executives rounded it down to zero, and the question on everybody’s lips was how long the company had left. An engineer by training, Su spearheaded a bottom-up redesign of AMD’s products, Ârepaired Ârelationships with customers, and rode the AI boom to new heights. In 2022 the company’s overall value surpassed its historical rival ÂIntel’s for the first time.
