The PC version of FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH, a definitive version of the action RPG that Square Enix originally launched exclusively for PlayStation 5 consoles in February 2024, will deliver several improvements over its PlayStation counterparts, including better lighting and visuals, according to new information that game director Naoki Hamaguchi has shared in an interview with Epic Games. “The lighting rendering has been greatly adjusted,” the Square Enix veteran mentioned before going on to say that “even richer 3D models and texture resolutions that cannot be processed on the PS5” await those with higher-spec PCs. See below for the specifications and an announcement trailer for the PC version of the game, which is releasing on January 23, 2025 via Steam and the Epic Games Store.

Hamaguchi said his team also enabled popular graphical options like DLSS and VRR, along with graphical presets for players who are less comfortable fiddling with complex settings panels. “By selecting the preset option that best suits one’s PC specs, one can easily apply the settings for the most optimal environment, and of course, it is also possible to set further granular options for core PC users,” he explained.

One unique challenge for the PC port? The myriad mini-games. “As you know, Rebirth contains many mini-games,” he said. “It was a challenge to tackle the huge number of required tasks, such as enabling unique key configuration settings for certain mini-games.”
