We were able to trek into Phison’s suite at CES this year to grab a few pictures of the E28 controller that they are launching today. Per Phison, one of the major improvements that they are aiming for is to reduce the power usage and heat generation that the E26 is well known for. This is accomplished by moving to TSMC’s 6nm process node. They’re also able to boost performance a little bit to allow for improved performance.

It is a PCIe Gen5x4 interface that leverages 8 channels with 32CEs. It supports up to 32TB of capacity at up to 4200MT/s flash transfer rate. For performance, Phison is claiming Up to 14.5GB/s sequential read and write performance, up to 3000K IOPS on thee read and write front while sipping 8.5W of power on average.

While Phison does not sell these drives directly to the public, I’m sure we’ll see it get quickly adopted by all the usual suspects and on to our review bench in due time. We’ll keep a look out on the show floor to see if anyone else is launching a product featuring the Phison E28 this week.
