Resident Evil 6, a sixth mainline installment of the leading survival horror game franchise that Capcom originally launched for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in October 2012, is coming to Microsoft’s current generation of video game consoles, according to a new ratings summary for an “Xbox Series” version of the game from the ESRB that can confirm a Mature rating, prompted by content that includes blood and gore, intense violence, nudity, strong language, and more.
“This is a survival-horror game in which players assume the roles of several characters attempting to stop a viral outbreak,” reads a rating summary for the action-oriented game that lets players control some of the franchise’s most iconic characters, including Leon S. Kennedy and Chris Redfield. “From a third-person perspective, players explore environments, solve puzzles, and battle zombies and mutated creatures. Players use pistols, machine guns, knives, and explosives to kill enemies. Combat is highlighted by cries of pain, realistic gunfire, and large blood-splatter effects.”
“Some attacks result in dismemberment and/or decapitation,” the ESRB’s summary continues. “Cutscenes depict further instances of violence and/or blood and gore: a zombie shot in the head, exposing bits of brain; a zombie stabbed in the head, close-up; characters killed by rotating fan blades and chainsaw-like blades. One mutated female boss is depicted nude, though without any discernible details (i.e., no nipples or genitalia). During the boss battle, this character can be seen caressing her breasts, gyrating and straddling another character.”
“The word ‘f**k’ appears in the game,” the ESRB additionally warns.
“Blending action and survival horror, Resident Evil 6 promises to be the dramatic horror experience of 2013,” reads Capcom’s description for the game. “Resident Evil favorites Leon S. Kennedy, Chris Redfield and Ada Wong are joined by new characters, including Jake Muller, to face a new horror, the highly virulent C-virus, as the narrative moves between North America, the war-torn Eastern European state of Edonia and the Chinese city of Lanshiang.”
