Nixxes has released a patch to help alleviate prominent crashing issues for its Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC version. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 launched on PC this week and it’s been off to a rocky start with many users reporting random crashing issues and what appears to be CPU-bound scenarios at 4K. PC configurations across the board seem to have been affected and some users on Reddit claim issues are likely due to memory leaks occurring when ray-tracing effects are set to their max.

While some have joked about getting an NVIDIA RTX 5090, with its 32GB of VRAM, to avoid a potential memory leak issue, WccfTech noted that didn’t stop it from crashing for them either. Nixxes hasn’t given much detail regarding Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC Hotfix v1.31.0.0 other than to say that it’s to address crash issues related to using ray tracing. Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PC version does support NVIDIA’s DLSS Transformer Model ray tracing reconstruction feature for improved visuals and performance along with ray-traced reflections, interiors, shadows, and ambient occlusion so there is a lot going on with this game when it comes to RT effects. The developer is working on another patch to address other sources causing the game to crash.

Per Nixxes (via Steam):

“Hey everyone,

Thank you for playing Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 on PC!

This hotfix addresses some of the device hang crashes that could occur while playing the game with ray-tracing enabled.

The changes in this patch are based on player feedback and data from our crash reporting system. While we are aware of other crashes, we intend to get these first fixes out as soon as possible.

We appreciate all the feedback you have provided, and we continue to closely monitor crashes. Our QA and development teams are actively investigating and working on additional patches to further improve stability and address bugs as soon as possible.”

CPU-bottlenecks?

Meanwhile, there are users also claiming their CPUs are experiencing major usage, something that was seen with the previous Remaster game as well, even at 4K. Of course, there’s always a potential “cry wolf” scenario happening due to potential user errors, improperly configured PCs, outdated drivers, etc., but many are claiming to have their rigs up to spec and still experiencing what appears to be CPU bottlenecks. From users on Steam to at least one media outlet, these reports are growing.

Per DSOG:

“At Native 4K, our AMD Ryzen 9 7950X3D was bottlenecking our NVIDIA RTX 5090. Here is a screenshot from the intro mission. As you can see, our GPU usage is at 91% when the framerate is below 60FPS. This is at Native 4K with Max Settings and Max Ray Tracing.”
